Norwich

The city is the most complete medieval city in the United Kingdom, including cobbled streets such as Elm Hill, Timber Hill and Tombland, ancient buildings such as St Andrew's Hall, half-timbered houses such as Dragon Hall, The Guildhall and Strangers' Hall, the Art Nouveau of the 1899 Royal Arcade, many medieval lanes and the winding River Wensum that flows through the city centre towards Norwich Castle. (A 10 minute drive from Bracon Hall.)

Sights

The Cathedral is a must see. It has the second largest cloisters and spire in the country as well as stunning Norman architecture. There is also the Castle, Tombland and Elm Hill as well as many other historic attractions.

Shopping

The shopping in Norwich is excellent. It not only has the largest undercover market in Europe, it has a plethora of fantastic independant boutiques. It hosts all the usual high street favourites as well as our historic department store Jarrolds.

The Norwich Arts Festival

Norfolk & Norwich Festival is an arts festival held annually in Norwich.

It is one of the oldest city festivals in England, having been held since 1824 and tracing its roots back further to 1772. It was initially conceived as a fundraiser for the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital. For most of its history was a purely classical musical festival which saw performances by many famous artistes, composers and conductors. In recent years the festival has moved away from this focus, and has diversified to include a variety of circus, performance, contemporary music, dance, visual arts and children's events.

Norfolk Broads

As one of the UK’s 15 National Parks, the Broads’ beautiful landscape, diverse wildlife and important cultural heritage are all protected – making sure they can be enjoyed for many years to come.

National Parks are designated for their unique landscape, wildlife and culture. Each park has its own special characteristics and the Broads is no exception.

The Broads National Park is made up of over 60 open areas of water known as Broads and seven rivers, the Ant, Bure, Chet, Thurne, Waveney, Wensum and Yare.

An almost continuous band of beach ribbons along the coast of Norfolk. Whether it’s soft, golden sand or shingle shorelines, there are plenty of remote stretches where you can picnic alone, even in August.

Beaches

Waxham

Waxham is our local beach. At just over 40 minutes its doable for a morning or afternoon with our kids. Its also very much a locals beach. You will quite often only see a scattering of people, sometimes no one at all. Expect long stretches of golden sand, dunes and seals!

Holkham

Holkham is a popular and large beach. You can still be on your own due to vastness of it. Lots of people walk here, although parts are off limits to dogs and there are great paths that run behind the beach and take you along the coast towards Burnham Ovary Staithe. You can always get the coasthopper bus back. Holkham also boasts one of Norfolks largests estates - Holkham Hall. Here you will find a plethora of activities, guided tours and a fantastic pub - The Victoria. Lots to keep you entertained for a day.

Brancaster

We love Brancaster because its really easily accessible with kids. It also has a decent cafe and as with most Norfolk beaches, if you walk for 5 minutes you have all the space you need. When the tide is on its way in or out you can get brilliant pools for little ones to splash in and collect shrimps.

Food and Drink…

Local Pubs

The Worlds End

Our local pub in Mulbarton. It’s nice inside - quite traditional and has a great beer garden and kids play area. Food is traditional pub grub. A major benefit is you can walk here in 20 minutes and stumble home…

The Boars

Fantastic gastro pub near Wymondham. One of the best in Norfolk for food. Great atmosphere and well worth a visit. 15 minute drive.

The Green Dragon

One of the oldest pubs in The UK. The Green Dragon is in Wymondham, a stones throw from the beautiful Wymondham Abbey. Well worth a visit to the Abbey and a drink in the pub after. Food again is quite basic but the architecture is well worth a look.

Fine Dining

The Wilderbeast

Only 10 minutes from us and one of the best restaurants in Norfolk. £££ but well worth a visit. Book in advance.

Stoke Mill

The food here is delicious in a picturesque setting and only 10 minutes away.

Roger Hickman

Regarded as one of the best restaurants in Norfolk. Good for an experience and try the tasting menu for a treat. In Norwich.

Our Food picks of Norwich

Delicious Middle Eastern Food. Great atmosphere. Always busy and buzzing. Great cocktail bar downstairs and DJ on certain nights.

The Ivy

A reliable option that feel glamorous and swanky. Food has always been excellent when we have been and always good for a people watch!

Drinking

Hawthorns

Lovely little boutique cocktail bar in Norwich. You wouldn’t know it was there if you walked past. Last time i went it only had 4 tables. Great, interesting cocktails and perfect before you go off for dinner.

The Last Wine Bar

Another Norwich Institution. Does what it says on the tin and in bucket loads. Good fun.

The Cosy Club

Cosy Club Norwich is in the restored old National Provincial Bank on London Street.

Complete with three beautiful private dining rooms, including an old bank vault, it’s a sight to be seen. The original glass domed ceiling is the centrepiece.

We haven’t eaten here yet but its great for drinks.
